Civil Union : Fredrick Douglass Museum, Baltimore Maryland

I was able to do my first civil union shoot with a couple who were married the previous day in DC then had a ceremony and reception at the Fredrick Douglas Museum in Baltimore the following day for their family and friends. Brandon and Craig really wanted a focus on the two of them, in more of an artsy way. They were both more serious and not feminine or silly so the focus was to document them as they were with still capturing their surroundings. They had specifically picked the location for the view and the artistic edge/visual impact they could get from the venue. The day was pretty chilly and they did amazingly well working with me. They were so comfortable in front of the camera, it really made it easy to photograph them. They just took the time to talk and interact with each other, so I could just document it. We ended up with at least 100 creative posed looks. This is just a sampling of my favorites. Brandon and Craig had help styling the event with the help of K&B Bridal’s Lauren Niles. She really kept things moving and the location set-up was stunning. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a wedding planner in the Baltimore Area.

Erin & Rich: St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Baltimore & The Hyatt Baltimore City

Erin & Rich had their ceremony at St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Baltimore City. The church was stunning. It was an old school catholic church with beautiful lighting and cathedral ceilings. This was the first time I had been to this church. Outside the church is Patterson Park which is a large park that was a great location for some fun shots. Patterson Park has a TON of shot locations. We were only able to take advantage of a few since the sun was setting, but I hope to get to shoot there again soon. The reception was at the Hyatt Downtown in the top room overlooking Baltimore City. It had a very contemporary feel and there were great locations for photography including glass elevators that overlooked the city. The day wen’t well and Erin & Rich have some amazing pictures. I love my job!!!

Tara & Greg: St. Augustine Florida at the Inn on Charlotte

Tara & Greg got married in St. Augustine Florida at the Inn on Charlotte. The ceremony was small and intimate. We only had about 40 minutes to do all the pictures including the ceremony, but we had a great time working together. There was a mix of eclectic style and some classic elements. Taylor & George York Township Park Engagement Shoot

I have the pleasure of seeing George and Taylor every week. George teaches my son Tang Soo Do (Korean Karate) and they are getting married next year. Both of them are pretty casual and they wanted to do a fun simple shoot at a local park before it got too cold. It was chilly, but Taylor and George hung in there. It took about 15 minutes to get them used to the camera, but we got a lot of fun pics. Taylor was insistent that we do some shots on the playground, since she is so playful. It was a great shoot and just goes to show how different all my clients are. Some are very classical, others more casual. The total shoot time was about 1 1/2 hours and they ended up with about 80+ pics. I look forward to shooting their wedding this coming summer.

Step & Repeat at the Fredrick Douglas Museum in Baltimore MD

What is a Step & Repeat you ask? Well, it is a ‘Red Carpet’ look that is set up right outside of the reception area. You use a specialty printed backdrop and have your guests stand in front of it to have the paparazzi like pictures taken of them. The couple we worked with included a cardboard cut out of themselves to have the guests take pictures with. The process went well and the pictures were a hit. Lots of creative ideas flowing from the traditional posed, to the guests picking up and holding the cutouts. It was a great option to add. I was lucky to have Emily Chastain come work with me. She is a great photographer in the MD/DC area that was available that day to come work with me, so it was quite a treat for my couple. Many thanks to her!
The Step and Repeat was set up for about 2 hours and the total cost of the props that the couple bought before hand was few hundred dollars ($300+/-). They got the life size cutout from a company called Party Stand-Ups at www.partystandups.com. If you would attempt to do this BE SURE the surface is non-reflective. (It is not 100% non-reflective and the flash does show on it a bit, but the overall look is great- if you did not opt for the non reflective material, photography would look terrible with the amount of reflection it would generate). The couples had a custom backdrop printed with their names on it and their wedding date. The backdrop was hung from a 8 1’2 foot wide backdrop stand and there were grommitted holes punched in the top of the backdrop at regular intervals. This allowed the backdrop to be attached to the stand with white zip ties. I would suggest that if you order the backdrop, you make sure they include those holes so it may be hung properly.
Photos by Carlotta was able to offer the clients all the pictures from the event and the Step and Repeat and the guests can go online and order any of the looks that they want so they can have their own copies of the prints. It is a great way to personalize your wedding and have something fun and creative for your guests to do.
I am glad I could share this with you. I think it is an amazing idea and it can add a great wow factor to your event. I have included just a few pictures to give you an idea of the look and what was done.
Note: If you would not want to see the top of the backdrop, you would need a taller and wider backdrop stand ( I think this is about 8’) and a larger backdrop. However, the larger the backdrop, the more expensive the investment is.

A friend of ours opened a restaurant that serves locally grown, fresh, high quality food. It is in a historic area of Shrewsbury, PA, right off 83 North and a short drive from Baltimore Area. The building has been restored and the food is amazing and reasonably priced. Being a wedding photographer, I am always looking for great places to recommend to my couples. Locals are in love, check it out! Julianas in the Village.

Sarah & Brett Wedding: Westminster Hall, Baltimore

Westminster Hall is a historic venue in Baltimore that is also the site where Edgar Allen Poe is buried. There are tours that are given through the catacombs underneath the venue and it has a really cool feel. We did the shoot at night when it was dark and my assistant was amazing helping with the lighting. Sarah & Brett were so fun to work with and took direction amazingly well. Catering was by Atlantic Caterers , Venue: Westminster Hall
